As I told you in the last email, we’ve been on the road today. I was expecting 6 hours, but it took about 1 1/2 hours longer due to extensive road works. We are staying at Wilpena Pound Resort in the Flinders Ranges. Diesel at the pump here is $2.98/ltr. One litre of milk in the shop is $3.00. I can’t run the Pajero on milk, nor would I want to at that price. I figure it would be more cost effective to drive back to the last town, Hawker, to fill the 4×4 up than fill it here. I did fill up in Hawker on our way here and the diesel there is $2.45/ltr. Hawker is 54 km away. To put 100 litres in here is $298, in Hawker it’s $245. It’ll cost me roughly $22 in fuel to go to Hawker and back. It seems silly to drive 100km to save money on fuel, but in this case it makes sense. Do you do this sort of calculation on your finances? I’ve been on a bit of a personal austerity kick lately. Cancelling unwanted and unneeded subscriptions because I realised how much they were bleeding my bank account. There was one I was about to cancel when I realised that it was actually a lifetime purchase and cancelling would be pointless. I’ve also re-discovered tools I should be using.
