TEGWAR is a fictional scam card game from Mark Harris’s 1956 novel and 1973 film Bang the Drum Slowly. I don’t remember reading the book, and I’m pretty sure I have never seen the film, but somehow I came across this card game. TEGWAR stands for The Exciting Game Without Any Rules and the baseball players play it with fans who are excited to be playing cards with their heroes. Personally, I thought it was a disgusting thing to do. Basically stealing money from people. But it is a good template for life and business. There are some basic rules that we mostly instinctively abide by, but many of the rules we think exist, don’t. There is no rule that says you have to have a website. There is no rule that says you have to have an email list, although it is a good idea. There is no rule that says you have to create or sell anything. There is no rule that says you have to follow your passion. And there is definitely no rule that says you have to use AI, or that you’re not allowed to use AI. So instead of hunting for rules that don’t exist, do what Game Masters do, write your own. Create some guides for yourself, then fiddle with them to discover what works. Or change them to suit changing circumstances. That’s what Game Masters do when setting out their guides for a multi-player Role Player Game. The guides are not set in stone, because they do not know which direction the game might take. I’ve distilled the RPG Game Master’s approach into a single page PDF that references how the same approach can be used in business. Download The RPG Playbook for Business here. Regards, |
