Many people would describe themselves as truthful, but even that is a lie. I don’t think I can honestly say that I have never met a 100% always honest and truthful person. They would be so difficult to talk to or live with. At the very least people will lie to avoid hurting someone else’s feelings. We don’t say, “What have you done to your hair?”. We might say, “That’s a different style for you”. We’ll almost never say, “Your breath stinks”. We may not say anything, and adjust our position with relation to your face. As a sales person I heard, “I’d like to think about this”, or “I need to discuss this with my wife/husband/lawyer/accountant/etc.”, instead of what they wanted to say, “No thanks.” They want to be able to blame someone else for the no because it makes them feel better. The hard truth is that we lie to ease our relations with others. And we all understand that’s what’s happening. We don’t call it out because that would be rude. Most of us are not deliberately rude to others. When you write a sales letter, blog post, or email to persuade readers to take a particular course of action you will probably exaggerate a little if not fudge around the truth. We don’t need to do this, but we often do because we’re trying to persuade. The biggest problem I see with this is that hyping something up is more likely to trigger refunds when the product doesn’t live up to the hype. This is very common on W+. What works far better is telling the truth about a product, perhaps even playing it down a little so that the customer is pleasantly surprised. What do you think? Regards, P.S. I can honestly tell you that I haven’t used this product as much as I should. That’s on me, not the product. It does what it says on the sales page, one of the few that does, but it’s not for everyone. In part because it’s not the cheapest product on the market, and it does involve a little work. The ones that do work often require you to do something and this is no exception. That’s an advantage though because it reduces your competition.
