Good habits are hard to establish. After that, they are invisible maintenance. The main problem is the first bit. They are hard to establish, and you do need to force compliance until they’re established. The easiest way to do that is to link them to an already established habit. Let’s say that instead of gazing out the window as you have your morning coffee you open your computer and start doing something to get traffic to one of your pages. Now obviously I have no idea if you have a morning coffee or gaze out the window, but I’m sure you get the concept. By linking an activity that you already do to something you want to do you begin carving a path to a good habit. Perhaps you have decided that you need to go for a walk in the morning so you lay out your walking clothing the night before and put it on when you get up. The next thing to do is step outside. Starting is half done. Starting is always the hardest thing to do because it’s always easier to not start, and there’s no risk of failure if you never start. Of course that’s not true is it. As Wayne Gretzky said, “you miss all the shots you don’t take”. To paraphrase, you miss all the opportunities you don’t take. Don’t miss the opportunity to develop good habits.
