I live in a heavily urbanised area. We still see wild life on a regular basis, mostly birds. Where I ride I see kangaroos most days, snakes some days, lots of birds. Today, though, was different. Not a first in the area, but definitely not common. Today there was a koala on the track, in the way. There was no issue, he (or she) did a quick bolt for the nearest tree and climbed to about head hight. Once he (or she) decided that the threat had passed, climbed down and continued on his (or her) way. Fairly uneventful really, except koalas are not abundant in the area. I understand that overseas visitors think they are cuddly and cute. Cute yes, cuddly no. In some wildlife parks and zoos there will be one koala that you can hold and have a selfie with. But not in the wild. Assuming that you can catch one, which is actually unlikely, you would not enjoy the experience. They have very strong claws and are very strong. You would survive the encounter, just a little the worse for wear. Australian animals are quite happy for you to leave them alone. Regards, |
