I confess I’ve been a bit lazy lately. I have been working on a big project in short spurts because I’m on holiday again. We’ve had the two families with grandchildren visit us over the weekend, one set per day, and we had a great time. The weather was good, so we hit the pool. But, my work suffered because I was too lazy to get up early to work or stay up late working. Today we met ancient relatives for a long lunch, which was excellent, and all had a good time. But my work suffered again. The upshot of the last three or four days has been not very productive. We have extended our stay, and I’m hopeful that I can get some serious work done before we are off again for a week. Ahh, the pressure. If I listen carefully, I can hear my deadline whooshing past. One advantage of working for yourself is that you can set deadlines and adjust them as circumstances change. Family time is more important than work time. It has been said that no one on their deathbed has ever said, “I wish I spent more time at work.” Regards, P.S. The disadvantage of working remotely for an employer is that it can be difficult to separate work time from home time. The only answer I have found for that is to work for myself rather than a boss. Then any deadlines that are set are the ones you set for yourself. Now, I’m not advocating that you should always let your deadlines slip, but that you can make exceptions for family time. The best deadlines are short, so there is little chance of interruption or distraction. Find out how you can set yourself up for successfully beating your deadlines and making money simply. |
