The best-selling car maker in the U.S.A. for 2021 was not Tesla. It was Toyota with Volkswagon in second place. No one would suggest that a Toyota of any model was the best car on the road. That honour would fall to one of the luxury brands depending on your taste. Tesla wasn’t in the top ten manufacturers, which makes their share price proof of story over product. With Toyota, the story is about reliability. With a luxury brand, the story is about exclusiveness. That’s the thing. The story you can weave around your product makes it sell, not the product itself. What sort of story can you weave around your product? Remember that you can enhance the truth slightly but cannot lie because you will be caught out, and your reputation will suffer. You can talk about the history behind the product, the authority of the creator, why it was created, what benefit(s) the user will gain, etc. In competitive markets, it’s not the best product that wins.
