You’ve all seen them. “Congratulations – You’ve just made $1,285.” “[Notice] Payment has been sent today.” “The $100,000 Lead Gen Strategy that Big Businesses are Hiding.” These are a small sample from one of my inboxes today. You may not get as many emails as I do, but you will still have seen these or similar on a regular basis. Sometimes they get a click, but mostly to do not. The kicker is that the sender goes down in my estimation and their next email doesn’t get opened. If they send too many of this type of email they will get opened and unsubscribed. Sometimes that doesn’t work, then they get the spam hammer. Which means that their desperate attempt to get an open and a sale with a click-bait subject line doesn’t just fail, it also falls off the radar. That’s why click-bait subject lines are self-defeating. Regards, |
