It’s time to move on. We did a test drive through part of the road we’ll be using tomorrow. The map, admittedly an older one, shows the road as being sub-standard. I don’t like dragging our 23-year-old caravan over rough roads. I have done it very slowly, without any damage to the van, but I don’t like it. Well, we let the GPS in the phone manage the route today. I’m pleased that we didn’t have the van on behind. We had the usual GPS foul-up and ended up on a single-lane dirt road with 200+ m drop-offs on each side. So steep they farm mountain goats crossed with dairy cattle. They couldn’t crop those paddocks, and I don’t even know how they get around their properties. It’d be a challenge on foot. “Dave, could you rappel down to the lower 40 to check Daisy? I think she’s stuck in the mud again.” Maybe the kids grow up with one leg shorter than the other so they can walk around their backyard. I don’t know how they get back home. The trip was worth it though. We saw some fascinating and stunningly beautiful country. After the cross-country adventure, the roads became boring, how I like them. Anyway, it’s time to leave this place and check out Tully and Townsville. Tully holds the record of being the wettest place in Australia. On average, Tully gets more rainfall in December and January than my hometown of Adelaide gets all year. The sheer volume of water flowing in the creeks and rivers in Queensland is mind-boggling. To say nothing about the vegetation. All to be expected in a rainforest. Regards, P.S. Check this video out, . It’s the first of the videos in the new channel. I’m working on the third one now. |
