“But if getting rich and successful was simply replacing negative thoughts and feelings with positive ones, why are some of the richest, most successful people I know miserable, cranky, and gloomy? Not all the time. And not in all circumstances. But as a general rule, it seems to me that most of the people out there making the big bucks are more driven than dreamy, more testy than tranquil, and more hard-pushing than easy-going.” – Mark Ford. You don’t have to be miserable to grow rich. But based on what Mark’s saying if you are miserable, it’s not an impediment. I don’t care much about getting rich. I make enough income as is, and my appetites are limited. That’s not to say I’m not ambitious in my way about other things. And that’s why I wanted to share this quote with you because it applies equally well to achieving anything in life, to attain moderate success. To just get started on any project or change you’d like to make. To succeed, you don’t have to be miserable, obsessed, or filled with negative thoughts. But it does not impede you if you are negative, a grouch, or even filled with doubts. Not unless your job is to be a greeter at Disneyland, a radio D.J., or a head shop owner. Or who knows. Maybe you can succeed even in those careers if you just get going. And if you just have the will or persistence to keep putting one foot in front of the other, however grumblingly. You’ll find many people in the world of positive thinking gurus who will try to tell you that you’ve got to get your head right if you want to see any success. They make a fortune out of making you feel bad and then telling you to change your thoughts. The book and movie “The Secret” are partly based on this religion. I can tell you that it’s not true. The difference between successful people and those who fall short is not their attitude. Nup, the difference is in their determination and their persistence in action. It doesn’t matter if you’re happy, miserable, or somewhere in the middle. It does matter that you take consistent action, no matter how small, in the direction of your goals. Anyone can take consistent action when they know what to do. Regards, P.S. If you’re unsure what to do, this short training will put you on the path.
