This is something I ponder on from time to time. Have you ever wondered? I’m sure you all know that the closest solar system to ours is 4.4 light-years away. That’s Alpha Centauri. We’re pretty sure that’s still around because it only takes 4.4 years for us to see the light. The nearest galaxy is the Andromeda Galaxy and that might be there or it might not. It’s 2.4 million light-years away, so we won’t know if it’s still there for a very long time, and even then it’ll be uncertain that it’s still there. We’ll only know that it was 2.4 million years ago. There are several potentially habitable planets in the Alph Centauri system, but we can’t get there with out current space craft technology. It would take us around 150,000 years to make the trip so it would have to be a massive ship with full life support capabilities, and it would be the 1,500th + generation that would arrive. So, are we alone? Quite possibly. Will we ever find out? Probably not for thousands of years. That makes us, you and I, the highest form of life in the Universe. Why don’t we behave like that? . .
