So begins the book I’ve started to read to our 2-year-old granddaughter about 5 times today today. While attempting to do some coding she decides that I’ve got something more important to do. All her books are at an easily reachable height and just behind me. This is the process. Grab one book. Give it to Pa and get lifted onto his lap. Insist that he puts his glasses on. Let him read 1 – 2 pages, then close that book, get off the lap, grab another book, etc. Rinse and repeat for about 10 minutes. You know what? I love it. Who needs to write code when your grandies want to interact with you? They’re not little for very long, so you have to make the most of the time we have. Anyone can make more money at any time they choose, but no one can make more time. Imagine that you’re reading a book with no way to turn back a page, and no possibility to read it a second time. How carefully would you read it? That’s life folks, treat today with the respect it deserves. Your task for today is to live it. Plan for tomorrow. Do things today to create the tomorrow you want, but do not live in tomorrow. You only have today for living in, don’t waste it. Regards, P.S. To make sure that the tomorrow you want can be locked in by your actions today you need to be disciplined. That’s not just for the work, it’s also for the interaction with those around you, like a 2-year-old who wants you to read to them because they are also part of the tomorrow you want. Have a look at the panels at the start of this page: https://sites.google.com/view/successissimple/home to understand exactly how discipline works. |
