I know that’s been a mantra for years, but faking it? Really? The apparent logic is that by making out you’re where you want to be you’ll get there. And that is sort of true. Your mind has an infinite capacity to bring into reality what you focus on. That’s really what “The Secret” is all about, but faking it isn’t quite the same. It’s a catchy phrase because it rhymes and sounds like a proverb so it sticks, but the reality is that many people feel like a fraud during their faking it stage and consequently never make it because they stop too soon. A better way to think is to ‘behave as you want to live‘ which, to me, is telling the truth in advance. This allows you to adopt the behaviours and actions you admire in others and want for yourself. The more you behave in the manner you wish to adopt the more you make them yours. They could be anything. Be more assertive. Be nicer. Be more productive. Be more loving. Be more tolerant. Be more confident. Etc. What is it that you wish you were better at? What would you have to do to be better at that? Adopt the behaviour of doing that better thing. It sounds too simplistic, but that’s why it works. Start with one thing. Regards, |
