This is something I’ve been playing with. I’m a fan of home-based solar panels because they can save you a bit of money on your power bills. Unfortunately, most of the sales pitches for solar panels serve you a load of BS. Even when we bought ours, the salesperson didn’t do their due diligence, and we didn’t know any better. That meant we bought a system that was too small for our needs. Our house has a problem because two very tall trees are in our yard to the north of our roof. In winter, they shade the roof, so we get almost no generation for six months of the year. We could cut the trees down, but we happen to like them enough that we are reluctant to do that. The salesperson could have made a bigger commission if he had realised that and shared that information. https://nomad-productions.convertri.com/diysolar. We are in the non-enviable position of getting a good return per kWh that the panels do produce in Summer, which we would lose if we make any changes to our existing system for another few years. Everyone who reads this email has a power bill. Some of you will be able to install solar panels to reduce that. The cost of solar panels has fallen dramatically here in Australia, and I assume it has for most of you as well. That means that you can cover the cost of installing panels fairly quickly, which is much easier than it was for us. No, solar energy isn’t free until you’ve paid the cost of installation, but that can happen fairly quickly in the right location. I don’t regret installing the panels. I do regret installing a system that’s too small. Regards, |
