Those of us who create for a living, that’s everyone attempting to make a living online, are not always inspired to create. It doesn’t matter though. If you want to be successful at this game, however you define success, you have to turn up and be consistent. You have to create something every day, even if it’s crappy, and still post it somewhere. Here is an exercise that I posted elsewhere recently, but I think it will work as an add-on here. It’s certainly easy for me to say, “hey just do your work every day” right? But sometimes we have reasons we can’t. Blockages. Distractions. Even just plain old excuses. So here is what you do. Get a paper calendar. On the cover, write the thing that you have a daily goal of working on. This tracking project is all you will use it for. Get a green marker and a red pen. On any day when you successfully do some daily work on your goal, put a big green check. Try to get as many as you can in a row. That calendar on the wall can help with that. Motivation. Here is my own twist on it. Any day where you fail, write on that day what got in the way. Write why you didn’t. Collect these reasons at the end of, say, a six-month period. How many are there? How many times did the same thing stop you? Now, make a plan to eliminate, avoid, or work around those things. You know what they are. You know that they’re interfering. Stop letting them. This simple process will help you immensely because it highlights and identifies the bogeymen in your brain or the outside forces that hold you back. Now that you see them, dodge them, and if you can’t, kill them. That last bit? A little bit of warning. What you discover might not always be the best thing to hear – like if your loved ones are constantly interrupting you, for example. You don’t have to kick them to the curb, though! But it’s an indication that you need to set aside regular time in a room with a door that locks or even just a quiet spot away from home to make some writing appointment time. It’s important, so don’t let it get away from you. Keep it simple this way. https://go.wm-tips.com/diamond. Regards, |
